AbstractA theory is presented of the way in which the melting of a polymer is manifested in a differential temperature analysis thermogram. An analytical method based on this theory allows a precise determination of both the melting point and the crystalline weight fraction as a function of temperature. Experimental results for linear polyethylene and crystalline polypropylene confirm the theory.
