Senate OKs auto fuel economy increase, more ethanol use

Bowing to a threatened veto by President George Bush of any measure that would increase taxes on oil companies, the U.S. Senate passed a revised energy bill that raises fuel standards for cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and encourages the increased use of ethanol as transportation fuel. Bush signed the bill into law on December 19, 2007.
