"Sustainability" can be defined as a balance of ecological, socio-economic and resource security. A sustainable corporation must provide goods and services which are valued for their contribution to the quality of life and the protection of the environment. Eco-efficiency measures the simultaneous effort to minimize the ecological burden while maximizing the economic value of goods and services produced and sold. The use of eco-efficiency analysis and the "sustainability compass " are outlined in this article.
