FIGHT FOR HYBRID VEHICLE ACCEPTANCE UNDER EPACT TO BEGIN IN FALL

Lobbyists representing the advanced vehicle technologies industry are gearing-up for a campaign beginning this Fall to get hybrid-electric vehicles included as "alternative fuel vehicles" under the Energy Policy Act of 1992's(EPACT)federal fleet mandate,according to informed sources.The campaign is possible because of a vaguely defined enforcement policy for EPACT under the recently signed Energy Policy Act of 2005,according to lobbyists.As DOE moves to create a new enforcement strategy to reduce the amount of petroleum-based fuel government fleets consume,lobbyists will be stressing the importance of counting hybrid vehicles in meeting EPACT goals,and the need to amend EPACT.
