Publishers want to throw the book at Google

IN LAST FEBRUARY'S IM@T Online we reported how,as part of its effort to make offline information searchable online,Google Inc.had announced that it was working with the libraries of Harvard,Stanford,the University of Michigan,and the University of Oxford as well as the New York Public Library to digitally scan books from their collections so that users worldwide can search them in Google.Those books which are out of copyright and in the public domain present no problems but it is those still subject to copyright that are the problem.
