Building a successful career in fats and oils

There are many paths to career success,inform recently contacted AOCS past presidents in North America and asked them why they chose a career in fats and oils,what they felt contributed to their success,and what advice they would give to those who are in the early to mid stages of their careers.Career advice from successful fats and oils professionals in other regions of the world will appear in future issues of inform.I chose a career first in food science,and then later and more specifically,in fats and oils.Quite frankly,I just liked learning about lipid oxidation-the causes,the mechanisms,and the solutions.Then I looked for a person to study with,and Earl Hammond became my major professor and mentor.It still helps to have him to talk to!
