One of the most important aspects of parametric modeling software is the ability to edit models by editing their features. For example, you can reposition a simple hole cut through a part model by changing one of its locating dimensions. Often the design process requires importing existing models to use in the design layout, but imported models not in the native Inventor format don't contain editable features. Making modifications to the imported model is often a difficult and cumbersome procedure. In this article, we'll show you how to use an Inventor add-in program called Feature Recognition to eliminate the problem of importing models with no editable features or intelligence. The Feature Recognition program analyzes an imported model and converts it into an intelligent model with modifiable features.
