Professor Robert W. Horne Hon FRMS

The RMS is sad to announce the recent death of Honorary Fellow Professor Robert W. Home. Prof. Home started his working life as a Technical Assistant at the Dynatron Radio Co. Ltd. before joining the RAF in 1941. In 1946, he joined the Department of Physical Chemistry at the University of Cambridge as a Research Assistant and was appointed Assistant in Research in 1947 at the Cavendish Laboratory, also at Cambridge. Prof. Horne joined RCA International USA in 1953, instructing staff on Electron Microscopes, before returning to the Cavendish Laboratory in 1954, where he was appointed Assistant Director of Research, a University Teaching Officer and a Senior Member of King's College. In 1962, he was appointed Senior Principle Scientific Officer at the Agricultural Research College, Institute of Animal Physiology, Cambridge. Prof. Home then joined the John Innes Institute and University of East Anglia (UEA) as Deputy Chief Scientific Officer and Professor in 1968 before retiring in 1983. Prof. Horne was invited by the Vice-Chancellor of UEA to work in the School of Biological Sciences following his retirement which he accepted. He also continued as Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Micron.
