Private sector funding for the International Year of Ecotourism

Development of sustainable tourism in some of the world's most beautiful (yet fragile) natural environments received major support with the announcement of a 500,000 US dollars gift for a project linking conservation and tourism at six World Heritage sites. The announcement came shortly before the launch of the International Year of Ecotourism at UN headquarters in New York in late January.
