AIRBUS DEFENCE AND Space has revealed details of the latest air-to-air refueling demonstration involving its C295W medium transport. Announced on January 17, the flight saw refueling contacts made between a C295W configured as a tanker and an H225M Caracal helicopter. The trial was performed jointly with Airbus Helicopters and took place at Marignane, France in December. Contacts were executed at speeds of 105-115kt and both crews reported smooth and simple operation. The refueling system is now offered to existing and prospective C295 operators. The helicopter refueling trials follow a recent successful demonstration of air-to-air refueling between two C295Ws.
