Environmental imperatives and economic development: the Del Monte Philippines success story

Del Monte Philippines was one of eight companies which received an award from the government of that country in 1994 for outstanding contributions to the protection and preservation of environmental resources. Del Monte, the only multinational corporation so honoured, was cited for its construction of a new state-of-the-art aerobic wastewater treatment system. Through the Industrial Environmental Management Programme, government and business have agreed to support each other's efforts to promote waste minimization and reduce industrial pollution.
