The next few installments of this series on flexible circuits will focus on the very important topic of termination and interconnection features used for flexible circuits. These include all of the plated through-holes (PTHs), interconnection vias, and surface mount lands that are used for component mounting and circuit interconnections. The design and manufacture of these vital features is critical to making an electronic circuit that will be both easier to assemble and more reliable in use. Failure to pay attention early in design to some basic rules can result in paying in dollars later for failures in process or in the field.
