Modeling isotopic fractionation in systems with multiple sources and sinks with application to atmospheric CH4

A formula for calculation of the isotopic composition parameter δ in a system with any number of sources and sinks is derived. It is applied to the isotope pairs13C/12C and to2H/H in atmospheric methane for which the importance of isotope fractionation in the sink processes is illustrated
