Actinomycin D was found to inhibit the increase in hydrolase activity induced in dandelion (Taraxacum officinaleWeber) root tissue by treatment with 10minus;5ensp;M solutions of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). The results obtained from transfer experiments suggest that the 2,4-D - induced increase in hydrolase activity is, at least in part, dependent upon the continued synthesis of a messenger RNA.
