This article reports on the role of chromatography for beet molasses in increasing the yield in sugar beet factories when there is a significant difference between the price of crystal sugar and molasses. The importance of better integration of processes when a new sugar factory is designed and built is highlighted. It is highly advantageous to feed the chromatographic separator for sugar recovery with the second mother liquor (low green syrup). It is then unnecessary to invest in a third phase of crystallisation and allows better use of equipment out of season.
