A new Wells-Dawson polyoxometalate-based compound, H[Cu(L)2(P2W_(18)O_(62))_(0.5)]·~3H2O (1) (L=N,N'-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-l,6- hexane), has been hydrothermally synthesized. Compound 1 is a 2D network based on [P2W_(18)O_(62)]~(6-) polyanion and nonparallel ID Cu(L)2 polymer chain constructed from two types of bi-nuclear circles alternately arraying with the dihedral angle of 34.75°. Compound 1 represents the first example of 2D Wells-Dawson POM-based compound constructed from the flexible bis-pyridyl-bis-amide ligand. Moreover, the electrochemical behavior, luminescent property and photocatalytic activity of 1 have been investigated.
