As previously mentioned, Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd (MSC) is apparently experiencing production problems, with market participants reporting a two- to three-week delay on shipments, rather than the four- or five-day turnaround normally seen on orders. This has been put down to falling concentrate shipments from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria; much of the mining in these countries is artisanal, and so the recent price fall has priced these producers out of the market. However, MSC has refuted the claims, saying that “Delivery of shipments to our customers are on schedule and our operations are business as usual.”
