The construction act 1996 is likely to come into force in April or May of this year. Among other things, it will create a right for the parties to a construction contract to refer disputes to an adjudicator. This is seen by many as a mechanism for obtaining quick, rough and ready justice, with the safeguard that if they do not agree with the adjudicator's decision they can refer the dispute to the courts or an arbitrator.
