A series of V(IV)complexes with 4-substituted salen ligands,formulted as [VO((4-C_nH_(2n+1)O)_2salen)](n=12(1),14(2),16(3),18(4),AND 20(5)),which formed formed a novel biomembrane-likebilayer crystal structure,exhibited an unprecedented bilayer mesophase having symmetry Pa2_1 in the layers.
