Roger Evans has been Bridgemaster and Engineer for the Humber Bridge 'one of tile technically most perfect suspension bridges in the world', for the past 7 years. Prior to that he was Deputy Bridgemaster for 12 years, having previously worked for contractors and more latterly as a bridge designer in local government. It is not every day that you meet an engineer who is a Bridgemaster, for the simple reason that there are not many of them. He is the only Bridgemaster registered with the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association, the worldwide body to which toll organisations belong. The title used to be very common in Britain but is now little used.
