A Distinction Without a Difference? Why Synergies Between Diversity and Cross-Cultural Psychology Benefit Global Organizations

In their focal article, Ferdman and Sagiv (2012) differentiate the fields of diversity in organizations and cross-cultural work psychology in terms of phenomena studied, goals and foci, underlying values, and emphasis on research versus practice. In the first part of this commentary, we present our view that both fields are inherently connected and that discussing the differences between these fields is less critical than actively collaborating to advance theory, research, and practice in today's global environment. In the second part, we identify some challenges that require the partnership of both fields. These ideas are framed from an applied per-spective, considering the needs of leaders and human resource practitioners in global organizations.
