Judgment and decision-making research has indeed benefited enormously from the con-trast between descriptive and normative approaches. The field of behavioral deci-sion theory evolved out of Herbert Simon's studies on the impact of bounded ratio-nality on organizational decision making, but it accelerated as researchers began using the expected utility and subjective expected utility theories of choice as bench-marks for describing actual human choice behavior. For the organizational applica-tions of this approach advocated by Dalal et al. (2010) to fully succeed, care must be taken to apply the proper normative theory. For many workplace decisions of interest, the standard decision theory benchmarks may prove far less informative than other concepts.
