The most critical moments of paper manufacturing occur after mechanical pressing.At this point,the moisture content of the paper web is 50 per cent and its strength stands at only a tenth of the strength of dry paper.Even so,the strength properties of wet paper are poorly known.In his doctoral dissertation,Jarmo Kouko,who works as a researcher at VTT in Jyvaskylii,studied how temperature,fibre raw material and the straining during the drying process as well as its quantity affect the paper's strength properties.>>The aim is to control the runnabil-ity of the wet paper web by straining it to a web tension that ensures throughput>>he explains.
