Nitrogen fertilizers are generally used in fanning fieldsto enhance the nitrogen fixing ability of crops and also toprotect them from pests and other contaminants. Theremaining nitrates from nitrogen fertilizers, which are notutilized by the crops, are washed away from the soil andenter into the sub-surface water level. These nitrates canpollute the running water and might lead to dangerous healthhazards. So there is a need to deactivate these nitrates in aneco-friendly way so that they do not cause environmentalpollution or health hazards.
