INOCULATION OF PHOSPHATE-SOLUBILIZINGMICROBES TO COMPOST

Composting is a popular means of recycling organicsolid waste under aerobic conditions, thus generating compost, a valuable fertilizer. Consequently, researchers havediscovered that inoculating the organic waste withappropriate microbes during preparation of the compost canshorten the maturity period while improving the quality ofthe compost. Working within this field, Cheng-Hsiung Changand Shang-Shyng Yang from the Institute of Microbiologyand Biochemistry at National Taiwan University in Taipei,Taiwan, have been working to determine the appropriatemicrobes for the preparation of compost (or biofertilizers)with high-soluble phosphorus content.
