A variety of wavelength conversion functions can be accomplished using second-order nonlinear optic effects in lithium niobate (LiNbO{sub}3) waveguide nonlinear optic wavelength conversion devices. LiNbO{sub}3 waveguide quasi-phase-matched difference frequency conversion devices provide wavelength conversion with features such as high efficiency, compactness, wide wavelength band, low noise, multiple wavelength conversion, and therefore, the devices are suitable for application to future dense wavelength division multiplexed optical communication network. In this paper the recent research work on the devices in authors' group is reviewed.
