Polydisperse polymers: Relations among molecular weight distribution, stress relaxation, and distribution of relaxation times
AbstractRelaxation times in polydisperse polymers were calculated on the basis of more realistic viscosity mixing rules than have previously been used. These relaxation times and mixing rules are in turn used to calculate viscoelastic functions such as stress relaxation following sudden straining or steady shearing. Inversion of these functions provides an accurate way to estimate the molecular weight distribution. This method is useful for insoluble or otherwise intractable polymers.
