AbstractLevels of gamma‐HCH have been determined in poultry tissue and eggs taken from poultry houses in which thermal vaporisers were operated. During continuous operation for 14 months, residue levels of gamma‐HCH in both substrates were related closely to changing levels of insecticide in the vaporiser; up to 46 mg kg−1(on a fat basis) was found in tissue and up to 4.0 mg kg−1(on a whole liquid basis) in eggs. Where the vaporisers were operated discontinuously, maximum levels were 6.7 mg kg−1in tissue and 0.53 mg kg
