Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. introduced in the market last December an information versatile disc for removable usage (iVDR), the iVDR Xtreme, which comes as one of the world's first removable cassette-type hard disc drive (HDD) for commercial broadcasting. At the same time, the company also released three models of P2 card, a semiconductor memory card that is compatible with Panasonic's P2 Series recording system for broadcasting. The iVDR Xtreme was developed to feature enhanced shock resistance compared to conventional iVDRs. Because Hitachi Maxell's iVDRs are compact and portable, the demand for these products grew not only for consumer use but for professional application as well. Hitachi Maxell has ap-Dlied a buffer material inside the product's case for it to achieve shock resistance against fall from a heiaht of 140cm.
