The Contamination Control group ran a highly successful meeting on 30 November in order to understand the vagaries of the various test methods for clean room air-flow. Traditionally this was well defined and understood in the UK 5295 spec but the introduction of the ISO 14644 family has severely clouded the issue. As explained by the UK experts to this international committee, part 3 of 14644 is seriously flawed. Vital areas such as the in situ leak test procedure and the permissible leak size are considered inadequate to protect ingress through the room filters used in UK industry. There is also lack of a specification for critical issues such as room over-pressure, filter selection and air velocity.
