Analytical investigations of leaky and absorbing planar structures

Analytical expressions for the loss coefficient and the perturbed propagation constant are presented for planar leaky structures which may have media of complex refractive indices. Numerical calculations are reported for the loss variation with parameters such as the buffer refractive index, buffer thickness and superstrate refractive index.
