Acute myositis with prolonged hyperthermia after severe influenza a (H1N1) pneumonia in 2 obese patients

Influenza-induced myositis is a well-known complication in pediatric patients but is rarely reported in adults, most cases being described during large influenza epidemics. We report 2 cases of myositis in adults in association with the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus pandemic. The clinical picture developed in the convalescence period of a severe influenza A (H1N1) pneumonia in 2 obese patients and was associated with prolonged hyperthermia and requirement of a long stay in the intensive care unit. The presenting of theses cases illustrate one of the different extrapulmonary complications of influenza A (H1N1) virus infection and is meant to increase awareness of the full clinical picture among clinicians.
