Persistent Bacillus cereus Bacteremia in an Immunocompetent Host

Bacillus cereus is an ubiquitous organism commonly involved in food-borne diseases and often regarded as contaminants of microbiologic cultures. We report a case of B. cereus bacteremia in an otherwise healthy adult who had delayed response to therapy. We also reviewed the literature on antimicrobial susceptibility of B. cereus isolates and published clinical experience in the management of systemic infections.
