Chemical embossing has made the embossment of PVC foam in register with the printed design an easily accomplished task. This is because the same technique is used to make embossed printed foamed material as is used to make unembossed, printed foamed material, with the exception that a chemical inhibitor is added to the inks which cover the areas that are to be embossed. The function of the chemical inhibitor is to alter the temperature at which the blowing agent decomposes. Either depressed effects or raised effects can be produced by the chemical inhibitor depending upon whether it raises or lowers the temperature at which the blowing agent decomposes.
