The grinding process has been studied extensively in the last few decades. One of the main reasons is its importance as a finishing process in the great majority of manufacturing sequences applied to automotive parts. It usually requires relatively long cycle times and low stock removal, which, in contrast, yields high precision, low surface roughness and high dimensional stability in hardened parts. Recently, however, there has arisen the possibility of hard turning to match the grinding operation, although only a limited number of characteristics can be replaced (1) as shown in this paper by Reginaldo Teixeira Coelho, Joao Fernando Games de Oliveira and Gisleine Pereira de Campos.
