The life history ofChrysomyxa piceaeBarclay, the needle rust of spruce,Picea smithiana(Wall.) Boiss, has been worked out. The teliospores are one-celled, likeColeosporium, but germinate by external promycelia, likeChrysomyxa. The rust does not belong to eitherColeosporiumorChrysomyxaor any other known genus and is namedCeropsoraand described. It is allied toMikronegeria, Chrysomyxa piceaeBarclay becomes the type species of the new genus and is renamed asCeropsora piceae(Barclay) Bakshi and Singh n. comb.
