A technological and economical sensitive layout of coolants can only be done in combination with the entire grinding process. For high material removal rates, ester oils can achieve a lower grinding wheel wear than emulsions for example by adhesive wear. For precision grinding and the involved smaller chip thicknesses, the smearing effect of the oil can even suppress the chip formation on the other hand. In this case emulsions have advantages of higher grinding force ratios and better heat conduction.
