Cardiac function in the chronic cardiac failure or chronic renal failure is an important factor to make a prognosis of them. Non-invasive methods to evaluate the cardiac function are useful to all the patients, especially to cardiac failure patients. I evaluated the cardiac functions of the 4 cardiac failure and 46 renal failure patients receiving hemodialysis therapies by the concentration of plasma ANP (Atrial Natriuretic Peptide) and BNP (Brain Natriuretic Peptide). ANP ≤40 pg/ml and BNP ≤19 pg/ml are normal findings. In the dialysis patients, no one had BNP within this limits and a few had ANP within this limits. Dialysis therapy improved the plasma levels of ANP and BNP, especially ANP. This means that dialysis therapy lightens atrial road more than ventricular load. Chronic cardiac failure also showed high plasma levels of ANP and BNP. There were a case whose plasma BNP gradually increased with no clinical symptoms of the cardiac failure. These findings indicate that measurements of the plasma ANP and BNP are useful to follow and evaluate the conditions of the cardiac functions.
