Bob Orme, a Senior Technology Specialist at Henkel, maker of Loctite brand products, maintains that liquid gaskets produce seals that create better results than traditional materials. To ensure the integrity of a seal between two bolted flanges, it is necessary to have some form of gasket between the mating surfaces that will remain intact and leak-free in varying - often extreme - conditions and over a prolonged time. Typically, there are three types of gaskets: conventional pre-cut compression gaskets, formed-in-place liquid gaskets (FIP) and cured-in-place gaskets (CIP). Let's look at each in turn.
