Effective maintenance strategies are essential if this is to be achieved, as maintenance and repairs often represent a significant proportion of lifetime operating costs. To enable this expenditure to be reduced, leading manufacturers such as SKF, have developed a new generation of condition monitoring technology, which is allowing vehicle builders and users to take a predictive approach to maintenance as opposed to time-based strategies, effectively reducing machine failures and optimising uptime.
