(1). All the three types of umbrella cloths have shown positive effect on GSM of surface deposition of the fluoro chemicals with respect to percentage cover and areal density of the respective fabric category. However, Polyester/Cotton fabric as an umbrella cloth shows the highest order of surface deposition for both the flurochemicals. (2). Application of fluorochemicals have shown a marked improvement in the water repellent rating for all the fabrics and specially a significant change in the Polyester/ Cotton umbrella cloth. (3). Air-permeability of Polyester/Cotton umbrella cloths shows an improvement in the mid-way position between Polyester and Nylon fabrics with the applied fluorochemicals. (4). The application of fluorochemicals certainly shows improvement in the thickness values from the view point of wetting of the fabrics under prolonged raining. (5). Amongst the three types of umbrella cloths, Polyester/Cotton fabric shows no deterioration in colour fastness by rubbing under crock meter method. (6). The study confirms the suitability of polyester/cotton fabric as umbrella cloth, provided the fluoro chemicals are applied under controlled concentration keeping in mind the cost effectiveness of the process.
