Recently, a spate of press articles has surfaced lionizing Toyota as a superior manufacturer. Some examples include: "Toyota...overtaking General Motors to lead the world's car industry." (The Economist, January 29th, 2005). "The Smartest Company of the Year" (Business 2.0., January/February 2005) "Indeed, by nearly every measure, Toyota is the world's best auto manufacturer. It may be the world's best manufacturer, period." (Fortune, February 7, 2005).
