AbstractA new sample configuration for measuring tensile mechanical properties during cure is described. The method utilizes a soft rubber membrane to physically constrain a sample in a uniaxial geometry. Using this method in combination with a Dynastat mechanical spectrometer, it was possible to follow the polymerization of an epoxy resin from the liquid to the glassy state in a single experiment. The results of a uniaxial dynamic mechanical characterization of a curing epoxy resin are presented.
