Ganoderma applanatum(Pers. ex Wallr.) Pat., aPhialophorasp., and possiblyCoprinus atramentarius(Bull. ex. Fr.) Fr. showed a potential for causing locally severe damage to aspen in Wyoming.Cytospora chrysospermaPers. ex Fr.,Pholiota squarrosa(Pers. ex Fr.) Quel., anAscocorynesp.,Pleurotus ostreatus(Jacq. ex Fr.) Kummer,Armillariella mellea(Vahl. ex Fr.), and aLibertellasp. all were associated with root diseases.Phellinus tremulaeBond. et Boris was not found in roots. Chemical evidence for the decay potential is given for six of the most frequently isolated fungi.
