This paper has outlined the spin-coating process and some of the specifics relating to coating radiation-curable materials. This description is a beginning point to a more complete understanding of the spin-coating process. As described above, spin coating is a viable option for radiation-curable materials in a number of applications. When considering spin coating, one must have a coating solution that is relatively low in viscosity, a symmetrical or circular substrate, and a homogeneous or uniform coating material. Spin coating will lead to uniform coverage in a short period of time and can also create a very thin coating. The spin coating process is similar whether using radiation-curable materials or other technology such as solvent-based coatings. As found in the photoresist and optical storage industry, spin coating and radiation curing can be used very effectively.
