The saturated nonlinear refractivehyphen;index change in a CdSxSe1minus;xsemiconductorhyphen;doped glass channel waveguide was measured with a picosecond pumphyphen;probe Machndash;Zehnder interferometer at photon energies below the band gap. The pumphyphen;probe configuration permitted the resolution of competing thermal and electronic nonlinearities. The significance of the results for allhyphen;optical switching is discussed.
