This paper spotlights the two-stroke engines for the saving-energy capabilities, that may be hiding behind the stereotype of hight power and fuel-scatter engines. In thermal efficiency point of view, two-stroke engines have several capabilities such as lower frictional losses, a higher compression ratio applicability and lower thermal losses, due to the low temperature combustion, auto-ignition applicability, etc ... Meanwhile, in fuel economy point of view, a downsizing will be inevitable due to their double frequency combustion. Two-stroke engines' higher power output and torque capabilities are suitable for a downsizing, however the compatibility with NO_x emissions would be a key in the real world.
