Chronic haemodialysis raises many psychologic and psychosomatic problems. They are: selection of the patients, dependence from the Center, impossibility of developing an adequate work, decline of sexual activity. This situation is very demoralizing and the patient may retire in his illness, giving up his role in the social environment. Very important is the presence of a psychiatric doctor in the Center not only for the patients, but also in the discussion with colleagues and the assistential staff, when he can give useful news as concerning the behaviour of the patients and the team with an interpretation of the psychodynamics of their interpersonal relationship.
