Rotterdam is keeping up a substantial market-share in the transhipment of dry bulk in the ARA-range for years - the port, terminals and the various service providers are investing heavily in their facilities to accommodate all shipments of minerals and improve this position even further. The extremely high charter prices for bulk carriers put extra emphasis on the importance of efficient handling in ports. Because of its great depth, the lack of locks and its immediate sea-side location, the port of Rotterdam provides unobstructed and therefore rapid access. Once the ships are there, the multitude of well-equipped terminals ensures that charterers can actually reap the benefits of this (time) advantage. What characterises Rotterdam and sets it apart is the availability and flexibility of the floating cranes, operated by, amongst others, EBS, Marcor, FP Stevedoring and Maja Stevedoring. They are instrumental in achieving fast ship-to-ship transhipment and, as a result, quick turnarounds.
