Minsands production and outlook for new projects

Mining companies, large and small, have long viewed the mineral sands segment of the industry as an attractive investment. Although existing operations have the capacity to supply market demands until 2010, with a few modest and reasonable additions to capacity, a number of projects are currently being seriously considered by both existing producers and new entrants. If all of the new projects being promoted are fully implemented, then there will be a serious oversupply of most mineral sand products to 2020. Some of the most promising projects are on the western coast of southern Africa.
